Interesting objects. A new chapter.Canton, Illinois By arrangement
A useful starting point

Interesting, useful, unusual—and worth a look.

Good photographs help. So does knowing which categories are likely to fit before you spend time sorting everything.

Photograph these first

We focus on interesting older goods, with a particular interest in items from the 1990s and earlier. Selected modern items may also be considered where they retain a resale market. Condition, quality, completeness and demand all affect suitability.

CategoryHelpful examples and details
Vintage furniture and lightingSpecialty or higher-end vintage pieces, lamps, mirrors and unusual furnishings. Include dimensions, labels and damage.
Decorative objects and artSelected ceramics, stoneware, advertising signs, distinctive artisan objects, identified artwork and old photographs. Show marks and signatures.
Retro technologyRecord players, receivers, typewriters, projectors and selected older gaming systems. Say whether tested and what accessories are included.
Tools and outdoor goodsSelected quality hand tools, tool chests, small power tools and older camping equipment. No firearms.
CollectionsSupported toys, complete Lego sets, model railways and unusual groups of objects. Photograph the group and representative pieces.
Selected other goodsSterling silver, certain quality small appliances, unusual vintage clothing, leather coats and selected rare nonfiction books.

Ordinary furniture and a specialty vintage piece are not interchangeable categories. We can consider damaged older objects in some circumstances, but damage should always be disclosed.

Current exclusions

The established buying rules exclude:

  • Most ordinary clothing and bedding. Unique vintage clothing, selected higher-end pieces, quality coats or shoes and handmade quilts are possible exceptions.
  • Beanie Babies, handmade primitive decorations, mass-produced low-quality modern goods, and ordinary china, dishes or drinking glasses. Exceptional stand-alone pieces may be considered.
  • Most fiction books, unless rare first editions; CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes.
  • Comics, trading cards, baseball cards and signed sports memorabilia.
  • Gold and diamond jewellery under the current buying policy.
  • Large household appliances, lawn mowers, large power tools and equipment with engines.
  • Furniture that is not a higher-end or specialty vintage piece.
  • Firearms. Knives and other supported outdoor goods can be discussed separately.
  • Used cosmetics; the existing policy makes an exception for selected fine perfumes.

Some categories have narrow rules: cassette enquiries are limited to hip-hop/rap, punk and metal; small vintage tube televisions are considered only at 17 inches or below. Describe the exact item rather than assuming every example in a category qualifies.

The easiest way to find out

Send clear photographs and a short description. If you have a house full of mixed contents, photograph the promising groups and explain the wider situation. Please do not bring goods to Canton without an agreed appointment.

An item appearing in the Etsy shop illustrates the kinds of stock the business handles. It does not promise that another example will be bought or offered the same amount.
